Tips/Advice3 Tips For Being More Focused On Your Startup
Tim O’Reilly can be really insightful when he wants to. Last year, he urged all of us to get more stuff done by focusing on stuff that matters, and now, he’s giving us some of the principles behind that mantra.
Here they are, with some extra commentary from yours truly:
- Work on something that matters to you more than money: if you’re only in it for the cash, you’re not doing something you love (unless your only aspiration is to have a lot of money without care for what you do, in which case you should sell drugs or your body or organs, etc.). By doing something you love, you’ll spend more time on it without feeling the burden of dedicating your job that extra time it needs.
- Create more value than you capture: you’ll reap what you sow. If you add more to the internet, the internet will give you more. You can’t be successful by just taking and not giving.
- Take the long view: take in the big picture. Make sure you plan ahead, so your startup won’t be surprised when you hit a rough patch. It’s all about planning. Don’t get caught unprepared.
Interesting tips, Mr. O’Reilly.
