Tips/AdviceKeep The Momentum Going
So you just launched your startup. You got great reviews, people started visiting, and everything seems to go beautifully. What about the day after? Tens, if not hundreds of startups are launched everyday, what’s to keep yours from fading into obscurity?
Here’s a list of the things you can do to keep the spotlight on your startup. It borrows form our own experience and the list at ReadWriteWeb.
- Keep doing things that merit recognition. Release new features regularly, update things, and most importantly: let everyone know about it. This could help you stretch your 15 minutes (more like 3 seconds, when dealing with the internet) of fame into something long lasting.
- Make friends, and keep in touch with them constantly. Whether your chat with them or you announce things on their sites or blogs, talking with the right people could make the difference between people forgetting about you and continuing to look at you as a source of innovation.
- Say the right things. People need to hear from you, but they need to hear the right things. Make sure you take part in conversations (social networks, forums, etc.) and that you make relevant comments. This way, people could start looking at you (and your startup) as an authority, and they’ll be hanging on your every word.
- Don’t sleep on your features. Keep innovating. You’re not going to get anywhere by keeping the exact same features and layouts for months on end. Change up, be fluid. Adapt to what’s popular, without imitating your competitors.
- Inspire People. Don’t be the one copying something, be the one brining the ideas to the table with every innovation. This will make people notice you, and every startup you are behind. Even if it bombs, it’s better to bomb with an original idea than to bomb doing something someone else was already successful with.
