Location Matters for Startups, Get Over It
Location, location, location...

Location, location, location...

This debate is as old as startups themselves: does location matter when setting up a company? The sad truth is this: it does matter.

It doesn’t matter how much of a believer you are in the fact that you can set up a successful startup anywhere in the world, once you get to thinking about it, then you realize that it’s better to be located in Silicon Valley. Here are some of the reasons why you need to be there:

•    Everyone’s on the same page: if you’re sourrounded by people who lead similar lifestyles as you, then you’re more likely to stay on the same page. For example: a small startup in Silicon Valley is more likely to be motivated during harsh times by looking at how well a bigger company did. They won’t only read about it in the news, they’ll see people go to work everyday and strive to achieve success.
•    There are more resources available: it’s a fact. Since there are so many startups there, then there’ll be more resources available. It makes sense once you think about it. Where will all the major startup service providers be? Where the startups are. It’s a kind of vicious cycle, but you have to go with the flow.

If you can’t relocate to Silicon Valley, then don’t worry. It will get better, especially as technology improves in a way that will allow people to collaborate more closely. Do you think location is vital to a startup’s success?
