Advertising Revenue is Dropping, Why?

If your site is monetized through online advertising, then you know that your revenue is dropping. Everyday, more and more websites are seeing a drop in their advertising revenue, and there are many reasons for that. Sadly, there’s not just one reason, and there doesn’t seem to be a way to revert this trend.
Why is advertising falling? Well, there are many reasons, but there’s a big one: financial crisis. People don’t have the money anymore to pay for advertising, so as the ads drop, your advertising revenue drops with it.
TechCrunch recently posted an amazing article by Eric Clemons, and it’s worth taking a look at. The extensive article details why advertising is falling, and what some of the things you can do about it are.
Here are the reasons why advertising was doomed to fail from the beginning:
- Consumers don’t trust advertising: It’s always been that way, and that’s a fact. People don’t like advertising, and they tend to shy away from it. It shouldn’t be any different online. Think about it, do you click on ads? No, you don’t. You try to avoid them at all costs.
- Advertising is pesky: It’s not visually pleasing, and that makes people shy away from it. People have been trying to hide advertising in their sites by making it more like their own layout, but experienced users can always tell the difference.
- Consumers feel they don’t need advertising: It’s not whether they need it or not, but they fell like they don’t. Why would you need advertising when you can find the information online on your own time?
