Tips/AdviceWhat Should A Startup Track?
This recent article highlights the kind of data that is tracked by different startups. It is obvious that different service providers should put all the emphasis on different aspects and data, in the same way that a café and a company that cleans windows care about different issues in order to operate efficiently.
The article provides two different real world examples. These are TicketStumbler and Dawdle. The former is a company that lets users not only look up tickets to events but also procure them through the site, whereas the latter is a sort of online marketplace where users can buy and sell games.
When it comes to a venture like TicketStumbler, some of the aspects that have to be closely monitored include the number of people who register, and the way that people use the provided search functionality. That is blatantly obvious – after all, the search tool is the cornerstone of the whole site, and you have to see how people are using it and – above all – whether it is yielding satisfactory results or not. If they do not get what they want in a hassle-free way, you can kiss your potential customers goodbye. Power user features such as notifications and alerts must also be monitored, IE are people using that?
For its part, a company such as Dawdle must also pay special attention to the search engine (again, the centre of the system). However, in this particular case it is important to track the different platforms and find the ones that are resulting in the biggest leads.
As a conclusion, tracking what your site does is always the key to improving its standing and the way people relate to it. But you must know which aspects must be prioritized and which facets are secondary in order not to squander resources and move ahead without breaking stride.
